The following speech, a heartfelt and inspirational address, is from Steven N. Zack the incoming president of the American Bar Association. Mr. Zack becomes the first Hispanic-American president of the American Bar Association. In his introduction, Mr. Zack details his harrowing experience in 1961 as a 14 year old boy fleeing Cuba with his family. During their flight to freedom, Mr. Zack and his family were captured and incarcerated by Cuba’s G2 the equivalent of the Russian KGB.
Mr. Zack said it best when he summed up his feelings about becoming the ABA president:
“The last thing on earth that I could have ever of imagined is there is a day like today. . . and I want to thank each and every one of you for this privilege!”
Mr Zack’s Initial Goals
During his address, Mr Zack outlined some initial goals he has as incoming president:
- Increase Judicial funding
- Improve Civics education
- Preserve immigrant rights
- Advance disaster planning
